Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the Capital, Estates & Facilities Department at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board for a Facilities Maintenance Technician (Electrical).

The Estates Department is currently seeking skilled professionals to collaborate with and assist the Estates Operational Teams in the daily operational upkeep of the health board's facilities.

We are in search of experienced and motivated engineering professionals to contribute to the ongoing service delivery of one of the largest Health Boards in Wales.

This department is undergoing a transformative phase of Service Enhancement aimed at improving support and enriching the patient experience, ensuring that our services are prepared for future demands.

We are looking for an individual who will guarantee excellence in providing a safe, organized, and highly effective service. We seek someone who can think innovatively and make independent decisions, as well as someone who can foster and support the service improvements necessary for our department's future readiness.

Proficiency in Welsh is preferred for this position; applications from both Welsh and English speakers are encouraged.

Main Responsibilities

Engage in tasks that are complex and/or non-routine. You will be responsible for calibration and troubleshooting a diverse array of engineering systems and equipment, including:

  • Hot and Cold Water Systems
  • Low Pressure Hot Water Systems
  • Steam Raising Equipment and associated apparatus
  • Steam Sterilizers
  • Medical Gas Pipeline Systems
  • Ventilation Systems
  • Electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, building control & automation
  • Standby generator systems
  • Security access control
  • Nurse call systems & data communications

Conduct scheduled maintenance, responsive repairs, minor enhancements, and assist other trades and discretionary capital projects as directed by management. Ensure adherence to UHB safety standards and protocols at all times.

Provide multi-disciplinary engineering expertise across various electrical and mechanical systems and infrastructure.

Understand, receive, and convey technical instructions to fellow maintenance personnel.

Offer guidance and instruction to other maintenance staff.

Prepare both verbal and written reports for Team Leaders and M&E Managers.

Coordinate with senior clinical personnel at ward/department levels regarding maintenance activities to minimize disruption to patient support services and care.

Carry out tasks discreetly, ensuring that clinical and departmental staff are informed of any potential disruptions or noise to maintain minimal distress for patients.

Engage appropriately with external suppliers and contractors, addressing technical inquiries and providing necessary information.
