Key Responsibilities:

In this position, you will have the opportunity to work as either a Grade 6 or Grade 7 Lawyer, depending on your expertise in the following areas: highways law, planning law, or commercial law.

As part of our dynamic team specializing in Commercial, Highways, Planning, and Property Law, you will engage in a variety of legal challenges and opportunities for professional development. Your primary focus will be managing a diverse caseload, particularly in highways, planning, and commercial law, while also supporting broader team initiatives.

In the commercial sector, you will provide essential advisory services concerning contracts, grant agreements, procurement, and collaboration agreements with public entities, as well as intellectual property issues. Your legal acumen will be vital in navigating these complex legal frameworks.

Regarding highways and planning, your advisory responsibilities will include handling matters related to highways and public rights of way agreements, orders, powers, duties, and enforcement under relevant legislation. You will also address traffic management orders, planning applications, and various local land issues.

Collaboration is fundamental to our approach, and you will work closely with client officers, fostering meaningful relationships that contribute to the organization’s success. You will be supported by a dedicated team of caseworkers, ensuring effective case management and professional growth.

Qualifications:

For the Grade 6 role, you will need:

  • A qualification as a solicitor, barrister, or chartered legal executive (Fellow) with full rights of audience.
  • An honors degree (preferably in law) or substantial experience as a Lawyer.

For the Grade 7 role, you will need:

  • A qualification as a solicitor, barrister, or chartered legal executive (Fellow) with full rights of audience.
  • A minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience, demonstrating relevant legal skills in the designated areas.
  • An honors degree (preferably in law) or equivalent experience as a Lawyer.

For both roles, you will need:

  • A passion for resolving legal challenges with a strategic mindset.
  • Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage extensive documentation and information efficiently.
  • An understanding of the political, reputational, and financial factors influencing decision-making.
  • A commitment to enhancing team dynamics and contributing to departmental development.

Team Dynamics:

Our team provides comprehensive legal advice on a wide range of property transactions, including disposals, acquisitions, leases, and title investigations. We also offer commercial legal support, drafting and reviewing contracts and agreements, and advising on procurement and intellectual property matters.
