Data Center Operations Manager

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Center Operations Manager to join our team at Alibaba Cloud. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers, managing teams and consultants, and developing and implementing change management procedures and tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define data center operations and develop change management procedures and tools, SOPs, and EOPs for regional collocation DC facilities.
- Lead technical teams and consultants to implement data center operations in normal and emergency situations.
- Manage collocation DCs to ensure vendors adhere to SLAs per contractual terms.
- Provide construction administrative support to project managers during construction, coordinating with internal stakeholders to assist with new DC projects through schematic design, design development, to construction documents, and commissioning phases.
- Analyze and provide energy-efficient solutions to minimize power losses.
- Develop and review detailed scripts for change management request (CMR) activities.
- Travel to data center sites for engineering studies, electrical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required.
- Provide electrical mission-critical system review services to global datacenter engineering teams.
- Participate in equipment failure or power outage-related incident Root-Cause-Analysis (RCA).
- Provide instructions to vendors, installation contractors, and validate quality of vendor work on site.
- Respond to emergencies in regional Alibaba DCs, including traveling to site and providing on-site support.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in global large data center facility operation (10+MW) as a team leader.
- Deep knowledge of data center mechanical, electrical, fire system, and controls systems.
- Functional knowledge of cloud technologies and architectures, IT service delivery principles, and best practices.
- Highly driven, self-managed individual with developed problem analysis and critical thinking experience.
- Knowledge of data center construction procedures.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (25% to 50%+ at times).
- Familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint.
- Fluent in English is a must, and bilingual in Mandarin Chinese is a plus as the role will need to coordinate with HQ in China.
