Clinical Lead for Blood Donation

About the Role
NHS Blood and Transplant is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Clinical Lead to join our team. As a Clinical Lead for Blood Donation, you will be responsible for providing leadership and management to our Regional Matrons, reporting to the Deputy Chief Nurse for Blood Donation.
Main Responsibilities
- Accountable for all processes on session, you will define the framework of systems within which blood donation can be effective.
- Ensure all systems are fully integrated across all functions in NHSBT, delivering the stable foundations on which to improve and remove any barriers to effective and lean service delivery.
- Design and implement improved or new systems, working collaboratively across all functions within NHSBT.
- Contribute to the development of senior nursing leaders through advancing their knowledge and skills and developing new systems in collaboration with them.
- Provide clarity around all standards of donor care and services (clinical and non-clinical) and have maximum positive impact on the donor experience.
- Accountable for ensuring high-quality clinical and process content of the Blood Donation education and training materials.
- Accountable (owner) for the controlled documents used within Blood Donation.
- Demonstrate and be a source of expert knowledge of blood and component donation processes, operations, and practice within Blood Donation.
- Exercise individual accountability in line with Clinical Governance and professional requirements, committed to and holding all to account for the delivery and continuous improvement of an excellent donor experience.
- Work as the operational link with the Clinical Director Blood Supply, the Lead Quality Specialist for Blood Donation, and be a visible member of the Blood Donation Clinical Audit Risk and Effectiveness group to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure professional leadership at all times to the highest standards of nursing as per the NMC code of professional conduct.
About You
We are looking for a candidate with significant leadership and management experience in a clinical environment at a senior level. You should have experience of successful improvement in service delivery and implementation of change, as well as evidence of experience in setting, monitoring, and evaluating standards of care.
You should also have experience of mentorship, coaching, and presentation of educational materials, as well as experience of working with budgets and use of financial/activity information. A current understanding of developments within the wider NHS, including benchmarking and similar services, is also essential.
A Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (which must be maintained) as Adult Nurse level 1 or 2 or Children's Nurse level 1 is required, along with a postgraduate professional qualification or equivalent training and experience in a relevant field. Evidence of commitment to continued learning and application in practice, as well as a commitment to own continued professional development (CPD), is also necessary.
