Nurse Specialist in Paediatric Asthma and Allergy

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Nurse Specialist to join our team at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist support to our asthma and allergy service, working closely with a multi-professional team to ensure that children receive the highest standard of care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the coordination of the service and run nurse-led clinics for patients from diagnosis through to treatment and follow-up.
  • Act as an advisor to healthcare staff on matters relating to patient management and provide clinical, professional advice.
  • Promote the development of clinically effective care that is seamless between primary and secondary care settings.
  • Assess patients, select, carry out, and interpret the end results of specific tests in conjunction with the Lead Nurse and Paediatrician.
  • Demonstrate and utilize specialist skills and knowledge to provide innovative practice in paediatric asthma and allergy.
  • Ensure a continuous service to children and young people is offered in the hospital and in the community as required.
Requirements
  • Experience of managing asthma and respiratory conditions.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proven post-basic experience of working as a Band 5 or Band 6 paediatric nurse.
  • Mentoring and supervision of other professionals.
  • Evidence of change management to improve the patient experience.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Proven management experience.
  • Sound clinical knowledge of current issues affecting children with asthma and allergy conditions.
  • Clear understanding of and a commitment to clinical governance.
  • Articulated understanding of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, Scope of Professional Practice, and its application to clinical practice.
  • Articulated understanding of managing clinical risk.
