Emergency Response Coordinator

At National Highways, our dedicated team in the Regional Operations Centre plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our road networks. As a Control Room Operator, you will be the first point of contact for motorists in distress, whether they are facing a breakdown or an accident. Your responsibilities will include managing alerts, coordinating road maintenance teams, and overseeing the safe deployment of our workforce across the network.

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our dynamic team in the East region, where you will be stationed at our Regional Operations Centre. Your role will involve collaborating with emergency services, recovery teams, and our Traffic Officers to provide a seamless service to the public.

Our operations run around the clock, 365 days a year, requiring our operators to work on a shift basis, typically consisting of six days on followed by three days off.

The starting salary for this position is competitive, with potential earnings increasing after a probationary period. This includes a base salary complemented by a shift allowance and additional remuneration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responding to emergency roadside calls promptly
  • Coordinating on-road teams, including Traffic Officers and Maintenance Contractors, during emergencies
  • Communicating effectively via radio with Traffic Officers and Emergency Services
  • Instructing contractors to address urgent road defects
  • Notifying other emergency services and utility companies as necessary
  • Monitoring incidents from initiation to resolution
  • Maintaining detailed incident logs and documentation
  • Performing administrative tasks to support the operations of the Centre

Qualifications and Skills:

We are looking for candidates who are positive, compassionate, and possess strong IT and communication skills. If you prioritize safety, take responsibility for your tasks, and work well in a team, you may be an excellent fit for our organization.

Desired qualifications include:

  • GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent experience
  • Exceptional communication skills and a professional telephone manner
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
  • Typing proficiency of at least 32 words per minute
  • Willingness to work shifts as part of a 24/7 operation
