Job Title: Fire Safety Coordinator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Safety Coordinator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and managing the fire risk assessment programme for all relevant buildings within the borough, ensuring compliance with the Council's legal and mandatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and administer the programme of fire risk assessments and other fire safety related matters, ensuring compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
  • Develop and manage overall programme and manage the collation of compliance actions derived from annual visits.
  • Manage existing IT systems and develop new ones where required, ensuring they remain fit for purpose in accordance with legislation and any subsequent legal amendments.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management of levels of compliance, highlighting areas of concern and developing remedial actions to mitigate any risks.
  • Responsible for monitoring and updating fire databases, ensuring information flow to other corporate systems such as APEX.
  • Liaise with external health and safety bodies, including HSE and London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, to mitigate risks and provide service improvements.
  • Compile packages for investments works, investment programmes, and other fire safety related projects as detailed in fire risk assessments and other assessments and surveys.
  • Liaise with internal bodies, such as Building Control and Planning, to ensure statutory requirements are met.
Requirements:
  • Able to use MS Word and Excel packages proficiently.
  • Level of numeracy and literacy to analyse data and write reports and correspondence commensurate to grade.
  • Understanding of files and folders information configuration and collation.
  • Knowledge of Fire Safety matters, and health and safety matters.
  • Experience of high-volume file / process-oriented tasks in a public sector environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
  • Able to effectively plan and organise a wide and challenging workload to tight deadlines.
  • Able to explain complex information clearly to members of the public, staff, and contractors within a professional environment.
  • Able to create and maintain effective working relationships.
  • The post holder must demonstrate an understanding of the issues relating to equal opportunities in service delivery and provision within the Environment and Housing Department, and to actively promote ways of eradicating racism, sexism and other forms of negative discrimination through the Council's policies and procedures.
  • To comply with the Council's Health and Safety Policy.
  • To work outside normal working hours to attend meetings or other events.
Additional Information:
  • Onsite at least 2-3 days a week.
