We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Claims Underwriter to join our team at Allied World. As a Claims Underwriter, you will play a critical role in analyzing and evaluating risks to ensure that our clients receive the best possible coverage.
Key Responsibilities- Account Analysis: Perform thorough reviews of underwriting applications and submissions, including internet research and review of requested terms and conditions.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct extensive account analysis to identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Underwriting Files: Maintain accurate and up-to-date underwriting files in accordance with company guidelines.
- New Business Development: Identify opportunities for new business and develop strategies to market and sell our products.
- Premium Benchmarking: Collaborate with actuarial support to develop premium benchmarking and pricing models.
- Quote and Binder Authorization: Authorize quotes, binders, and invoices in accordance with company guidelines.
- Claims Department Liaison: Liaise with the Claims Department on specific claim activity and market claim concerns.
- Industry Knowledge: Stay current with major industry issues and developments, attending conferences and seminars as appropriate.
- Team Leadership: Delegation and supervision of work to Assistant Underwriters, contributing to the professional development and training of more junior members.
- Client and Broker Relationships: Attend client and broker meetings, lunches, and dinners to build strong relationships and discuss production, service, and other topics relative to divisional operations.
- Professional Qualification: Ideally, a graduate-level individual with a professional insurance qualification.
- Experience: 5+ years of demonstrable experience underwriting blue-chip accounts and clients, with expertise and in-depth working knowledge of standard market policy and endorsement wordings.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical skills and solid knowledge of pricing and actuarial models and methods.
- Communication Skills: Highly articulate, with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills required for daily liaison with clients and brokers.
- Marketing and Business Development: Strong marketing and business development capability and commercial acumen.
- Computer Literacy: Highly computer literate within MS Office applications and an advanced level proficiency using underwriting systems such as Genius/Openbox.
