Position Title: Vineyard Worker

Job Location: Kent.

Compensation Package: Offering £24,000 - £27,000 annually plus overtime opportunities.

Additional Information:

  • This is a permanent full-time role.
  • Working hours: Monday - Thursday 8am - 4:30pm, Friday 8am - 3:30pm.
  • Potential for overtime during peak seasons.

About The Company:

The vineyard estate is situated in the South East of England. Following a record harvest in 2022, the estate is expanding its cropping area in Kent to leverage the favorable climate and soil conditions.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a motivated individual to become a vital part of the vineyard team in Kent.

As a senior member of the vineyard team, you will provide support and leadership under the direction of the Vineyard Supervisor.

Your collaboration with the team will ensure that daily tasks are completed according to specifications.

In this capacity, you will also deliver ongoing training and mentorship to all vineyard personnel.

Key Responsibilities:
Your duties will include:

  • Ensuring all tasks are performed according to Supervisor or Management directives while providing training and guidance to team members.
  • Tasks will encompass:
  • Pruning activities.
  • Vine management - including leaf trimming, shoot thinning, and yield manipulation.
  • Application of sprays - maintaining accurate records.
  • Trellis upkeep - including vineyard establishment as necessary.
  • Ground management - encompassing weed control, mowing, and soil cultivation.
  • Maintenance of machinery.
  • General site upkeep.

Under the Supervisor's guidance, you will assist in:

  • Overseeing agency staff while maintaining a professional and approachable demeanor.
  • Assisting with record-keeping as requested by the Vineyard Supervisor.
  • Providing coverage for the Vineyard Supervisor during their absence due to holidays or illness.
  • Updating the Vineyard Manager/Viticulturist during this time.
  • Ensuring staff adhere to proper procedures and offering guidance/training when necessary.
  • Reporting any issues to the Vineyard Supervisor that may impact vineyard operations.
  • Continuously seeking improvements in quality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and professionalism.
  • Providing ongoing training and support to all team members across various vineyard locations as needed.
  • Performing duties commensurate with the responsibilities of the role and any other reasonable management requests.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A keen interest in viticulture and vine management.
  • Enthusiasm for learning about UK vineyards and the growing industry.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Due to the nature of the role, the following attributes are essential:
  • A confident driver.
  • PA1 & PA3 and/or telehandler qualifications - desirable.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Proficient levels of English literacy and numeracy.
  • Capability to follow instructions and work orders.
  • A clean and valid driving license with unrestricted access to a vehicle during the workweek.
  • Willingness to supervise and collaborate with agency staff.
