Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity to join a prestigious and value-oriented Law Firm that promotes a healthy work-life balance while collaborating with outstanding colleagues.

This unique role is for a highly skilled charity and social enterprise lawyer with over 6 years of post-qualification experience to become part of our client's leading team in the sector.

You will oversee the daily management of legal matters, offering both legal and strategic counsel on a comprehensive array of corporate and commercial challenges that impact these sectors, with specialized insights into their regulation and operations.

With significant client interaction, you will be encouraged and supported to cultivate your own networks, relationships, and business origination in areas that inspire you. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to mentor and guide junior lawyers in their development.

Role Responsibilities

The work will frequently involve innovative and strategically complex challenges. You will collaborate with top legal professionals in these fields to assist inspiring clients in making a positive impact, backed by a strong team of knowledgeable lawyers.

Your advisory role will encompass a wide range of issues faced by charities and social enterprises, including establishment, incorporation, mergers, de-mergers, restructuring, joint ventures, collaborations, commercial contracts (including intellectual property matters), charity fundraising, and governance issues, including crisis management.

Essential Experience

You will possess substantial experience in advising charities and social enterprises on various charity, commercial, and corporate law matters, enabling you to operate with a considerable degree of independence within a collaborative and supportive setting. This includes extensive experience in leading advice on commercial contracts, intellectual property issues, charity fundraising, and corporate transactions.

Key Skills Required

  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and advocacy abilities.
  • Capability to perform effectively under pressure and meet stringent deadlines while managing competing priorities across chargeable and non-chargeable tasks.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong analytical skills, with the ability to adopt a proportionate and commercial perspective.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, including the delegation, supervision, and development of junior lawyers.

Candidate Profile

  • You will be a qualified solicitor in England and Wales with a minimum of 6 years of post-qualification experience in advising charities and social enterprises, particularly regarding commercial contracts, intellectual property, charity fundraising, and corporate transactions.
  • You will have experience in managing matters with minimal oversight, taking ownership of daily client interactions, project management, and matter oversight.
  • You will demonstrate enthusiasm for business development and a proven track record in practice growth.
  • You are committed to client service, building strong relationships, and eager to expand your practice through business development opportunities within the purpose-driven and impact-focused sector.
  • You align with our values and are motivated to make a meaningful difference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality legal and strategic advice to clients.
  • Maintain exceptional standards of client service through effective relationship and matter management.
  • Continue to enhance your expertise to provide practical advice and elevate your profile within the firm.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities.
  • Stay informed and adaptable to respond effectively to market changes.

About Our Culture

  • A unified approach fosters collaboration and improvement to achieve shared goals and provide a consistent experience.
  • As a values-driven firm, we are committed to our clients, our people, the environment, and society, considering the Climate Emergency and Biodiversity Crisis in our business strategy.
  • We aim to positively impact our people, our greatest asset, so they can, in turn, positively impact others. Purpose is integral to our partnership ethos.
  • We promote a strong work/life balance, offering at least 25 days of holiday with the option to purchase additional days and a 'Summer in the City' early finish.
  • Our agile and hybrid working environment allows flexibility in where and how you work.
  • Our benefits and wellbeing package includes matching pension contributions, private medical insurance, discretionary bonuses, life assurance, subsidized gym memberships, lifestyle discounts, and a profit-sharing scheme.
  • Everyone shares in bonuses when financial thresholds are exceeded, as a portion of the LLP profit is distributed among our people.

About the Charity and Social Enterprise Team

We provide comprehensive advice on the full spectrum of corporate and commercial issues affecting charities and social enterprises, with specialized insights into their regulatory and operational frameworks.

Our clients include renowned charities, social enterprises, purpose-driven businesses, corporations, government entities, and public institutions, ranging from grassroots organizations to large national and international entities. We work with thought leaders on charitable and social impact issues. Our strong focus on innovation and positive social change offers opportunities to advise on emerging areas of law. The extensive scope of our practice provides a diverse and engaging mix of complex and routine advisory work.

About the Opportunity

  • We encourage all our lawyers to pursue their personal interests through their practice, develop management skills by supervising junior fee earners, contribute to business development, and collaborate across our robust sector groups.
  • Lawyers receive career development support, including opportunities to co-manage client relationships with partners, assist in the development of newly qualified lawyers, and contribute to the department's strategic direction.
  • Our team structure fosters a supportive environment while providing opportunities for collaboration with colleagues across the department and other teams within the firm.
  • We have a competency framework that outlines the expectations for our people at this stage of their careers.
