Lead Clinical Research Consultant

Position Overview
The primary objective of this role is to enhance the clinical and investigative functions of the National Prion Clinic alongside the MRC Prion Unit at UCL. This includes evaluating intricate cases of patients suspected of prion diseases, overseeing clinical research fellows, and collaborating with consultant peers nationwide and at the National CJD Research and Surveillance Unit. The successful candidate will spearhead designated projects in collaboration with esteemed colleagues, contributing significantly to the NPC team.
Role Duration
This position is initially set for a duration of 12 months, with the potential for extension contingent upon securing additional funding for ongoing research initiatives.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a consultant neurologist or in a training program with an expected completion of CCT within the next year.
A focused interest in the clinical and research dimensions of cognitive and/or palliative neurology, or specifically in prion diseases, is essential.
This role necessitates travel across the country to assess selected, often complex cases, as well as supervising Clinical Research Fellows who will manage more routine cases.
As a senior staff member at the National Prion Clinic and Institute of Prion Diseases, you will assume a leadership role, engaging in management activities and contributing to research endeavors. You will also be expected to develop your own research areas, formulating research questions, designing projects, securing funding, overseeing project execution, and disseminating findings to peers and stakeholders.

A vital aspect of this role involves strengthening partnerships with patient organizations, colleagues at NCJDRSU, and the broader medical, scientific, and local community.
