Position Overview
We invite applications for the role of Clinical Fellow within the General Surgery Department at Barts Health NHS Trust. This position is designed for individuals at the ST1/ST2 level, including GP trainees seeking to enhance their exposure to surgical practices.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the surgical team, engaging in the assessment of all general surgery admissions, and will be involved in both elective and emergency surgical procedures.
Main Responsibilities
Clinical Governance & Audit
Our department has a comprehensive clinical governance framework, including monthly morbidity and mortality meetings. The post-holder is expected to participate in at least one audit project related to general surgery, with strong support available from the audit unit.
Training and Education
Candidates should have completed foundation year training and either be pursuing or have passed the MRCS (or equivalent) examination. While these positions do not carry Deanery accreditation for surgical training, they are designed to provide valuable training experiences for aspiring surgeons.
Research Opportunities
Barts Health NHS Trust boasts extensive research facilities, and we actively encourage research initiatives within our department and in collaboration with other hospital departments. There will be ample time allocated within the rota for fellows to undertake significant research projects during their tenure.

Detailed Job Responsibilities
The rotas adhere to EWTD regulations (48 hours). Barts Health NHS Trust reserves the right to modify the standard working week and additional duties as required by service needs, providing as much notice as possible for any changes.
On-call cover may be required, and the post-holder may be responsible for patient care across various departments within Barts Health NHS Trust.
