The Projects and Technical Architecture team operates within the Technology, Delivery, Strategy, and Commercial division, which is responsible for the stewardship and execution of our technology strategy, supported by Business Engagement and Commercial teams.
This team is part of the broader Workspace, Information, Security, and Technology Directorate (WIST), which provides strategic oversight on property, technology, information management, and security services across DHSC and its associated bodies.
The Projects and Technical Architecture team plays a pivotal role in maintaining architectural integrity across the DHSC's digital and technology portfolio, delivering hands-on technical leadership in the design, deployment, operation, and continuous enhancement of services, while proactively ensuring a stable and viable architecture with consistent design standards.
Role Responsibilities
This position encompasses extensive technical assurance responsibilities across a diverse array of digital and technology operations, including M365 and Azure, alongside managing a dynamic portfolio of projects and new integrations.
The role reports directly to the IT Strategy and Technical Design Authority and will engage in all facets of the team's assurance responsibilities, actively advising and influencing a wide range of colleagues, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders.
This opportunity allows for engagement with a modern toolset featuring numerous integrations that benefit both on-site and remote employees within a standardized, resilient enterprise digital and technology framework.
The position is suitable for individuals with prior experience in a similar assurance capacity or those possessing relevant solutioning expertise who are eager to develop the necessary skills and breadth of knowledge.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Formulating the IT strategy and ensuring its alignment as the DHSC business model evolves.
- Maintaining the architectural transition roadmap encompassing M365 modern workplace, Azure, LAN, telephony, AV, and other services.
- Overseeing technical design and providing assurance for the execution of specific projects aimed at modernizing DHSC and core digital and technology services.
- Ensuring proposed solutions align with business objectives and requirements while adhering to strategic and security frameworks.
- Acting as the design authority during project engagements and in preliminary meetings with colleagues across DHSC and other government departments.
- Managing M365 Message Centre notifications and conducting change advisory board impact assessments.
- Collaborating with business engagement teams to interpret user requirements for new and existing services.
- Upholding secure design principles while engaging with cybersecurity and information governance teams.
- Presenting solutions to project and program boards and other stakeholders.
- Reviewing all new work requests and proposals against the current product offerings, strategic roadmap, and business case objectives.
- Leading proof of concept initiatives.
- Engaging with and overseeing third-party supplier contributions to strategy and delivery.
- Staying updated with technical solutions and emerging trends, aligning with government best practices, policies, standards, toolkits, and relevant legislation.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Hands-on experience in the technical design, deployment, and support of digital and technology solutions within an enterprise environment.
- Proficient in managing Microsoft technologies such as M365, Azure, and Networks.
- Demonstrated ability to gather and comprehend business requirements and define effective solutions.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups and influencing across organizational boundaries, with the ability to communicate technical issues in straightforward language.
- Familiarity with technical assurance principles.
- Understanding of secure design and risk management principles.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience conducting technical assurance activities in an enterprise context.
- Experience managing third-party suppliers.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity and information assurance principles.
- Relevant certifications in Microsoft technologies (M365 and Azure) or other cloud certifications.
- TOGAF certification.
Your primary workplace will be your contractual primary location, typically either London or Leeds. DHSC offers non-contractual hybrid working arrangements, with a current expectation of at least 60% of your working time spent in the office to foster in-person interaction and collaboration.
