Position Overview

The Senior Buyer oversees all facets of indirect procurement and projects to facilitate ongoing and future expansion. This role involves collaboration with project leaders and engineering teams to manage all procurement activities from Request for Quotation (RFQ) to supplier selection and the establishment of robust contracts. The Senior Buyer spearheads supply chain initiatives to ensure timely delivery that meets site demands while ensuring compliance with corporate standards, procedures, and export regulations. Close interaction with Program Management, Engineering, New Business Development, and Supply Chain teams is essential to guarantee comprehensive representation of Supply Chain Management during project initiation and execution.

Key Responsibilities


• Source, purchase, and manage specified commodities from suppliers.

• Ensure supplier delivery aligns with operational performance expectations across a portfolio of £10 million spend.

• Oversee supplier scheduling in accordance with Master Production Schedule (MPS) and maintain accurate supplier and procured parts data within the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system to minimize shortages and eliminate excess inventory.

• Maintain daily updates of supplier promise dates to ensure the most current and precise information is reflected in supplier schedules.

• Collaborate with the Procurement Operations Manager or Site Procurement Manager to support the Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process regarding external supply assessments.

• Manage supplier relationships to ensure they meet committed orders, identify supply risks, constraints, and bottlenecks, and implement cost reduction strategies to align with company goals, escalating issues as necessary.

• Conduct ongoing reviews of external capacity in line with MPS.

• Drive continuous improvement in supplier performance.

• Maintain daily communication with internal stakeholders and receiving departments.

• Ensure compliance with standard procurement processes and manage daily tasks effectively.

• Oversee the supplier scorecard process to communicate supplier performance at all levels and ensure regular reviews as part of cross-functional team meetings.

• Support Supplier Quality Engineers (SQE) in addressing supplier non-conformance and managing supplier returns and claims.

• Facilitate prompt supplier payments by resolving any invoice discrepancies.

• Uphold adherence to Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:


• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.

• 5-8 years of experience in strategic sourcing, project management, engineering, procurement, or a related technical field within a manufacturing context (Aerospace experience preferred).

• 3 years of experience in commodity and contract negotiations.

• Must be a US Citizen due to program requirements.

Desirable Qualifications:


• Experience with GKN.

• Strong background in complex supplier sourcing.

• Ability to engage with individuals at various levels within and outside the organization and work collaboratively to achieve team objectives.

• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Capable of managing multiple projects concurrently.

• Ability to motivate and empower others to achieve results through recognition and constructive feedback.

• Skilled in conveying information appropriately to diverse audiences and leading negotiations to successful conclusions.

• Responsive to customer expectations with a sense of urgency.

• Willingness to take full accountability for decisions and outcomes, even when not all elements are directly controllable.

• Experience in implementing industry-leading best practices.

• Proven ability in strategy deployment and project management methodologies.
