We are seeking applications for the role of Consultant in Reconstructive Surgery within the esteemed Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Oxford University Hospitals. As a Consultant, you will deliver extensive reconstructive surgery services, particularly focusing on outpatient procedures. The department is committed to providing outstanding support and guidance for new consultants, ensuring a seamless transition and integration into the team.

Moreover, this role includes designated time at the Brackley Medical Centre for minor outpatient operations.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will oversee general reconstructive surgery services at the John Radcliffe Hospital. This role includes providing care to the Oxford Major Trauma Centre as part of a dedicated team of six consultants specializing in trauma.

The Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery offers a comprehensive reconstructive service to Oxford and its neighboring regions. Our consultant-led service encompasses a wide range of specialties, including trauma surgery, craniofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate repair, upper limb reconstruction, bone infection management, sarcoma treatment, breast reconstruction, skin cancer care, autologous transplantation, and head and neck cancer surgery, in addition to hypospadias treatment. We hold Burn Facility status as part of the London and South East Burn Network. Our facilities, including offices, outpatient clinics, theatres, and wards, are conveniently located in a modern block on the John Radcliffe site.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Full GMC registration and license to practice
  • Basic medical qualifications
  • FRCS Plast or equivalent
  • A minimum of 6 years of training in Plastic Surgery
  • Certificate of Completion of Training

Desirable:

  • Higher medical degree
  • Fellowship training in breast reconstruction
  • Fellowship training in hand surgery
  • Fellowship training in lower limb reconstruction

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong leadership skills with evidence of leading a clinical team at the consultant level in a teaching hospital
