Join the dynamic Financial Accounting Team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, where you will contribute to delivering high-quality financial services to our client organizations.

The role of Financial Accounting Assistant encompasses the responsibility for the monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including VAT control accounts under supervision, daily cash allocation, and bank reconciliations. You will also maintain comprehensive financial procedure documentation and provide client reports in accordance with contractual obligations.

Proficiency in keyboard skills is essential, as a significant portion of your day will involve data entry tasks. You will utilize various computer applications to extract, analyze, manipulate, and interpret financial data, as well as create and enhance spreadsheets for departmental use.

Effective workload management, planning, and organization are crucial, with performance evaluations conducted at agreed intervals rather than daily. You will be expected to demonstrate initiative in resolving complex issues and communicate solutions effectively, escalating matters to your line manager when necessary.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Conduct the reconciliation of designated balance sheet accounts by identifying, interpreting, investigating, and resolving intricate financial queries, ensuring accurate financial records and reporting in line with Service Level Agreements.
  2. Perform daily cash allocation and bank reconciliation for assigned clients, ensuring all payments are accurately analyzed and allocated to customer invoices or general ledger codes, with timely resolution of any discrepancies.
  3. Input financial ledger corrections and transactions into the computerized General Ledger systems in accordance with established procedures.
  4. Address and respond to queries from both Finance and Non-Finance staff, utilizing your expertise in financial accounting routines and statutory regulations.
  5. Assist in reconciling VAT control accounts and preparing VAT returns under the guidance of the Senior Assistant Accountant, while also reviewing consultant reports and addressing VAT inquiries from clients.
  6. Support the preparation of Annual Statutory Accounts for client organizations in compliance with relevant requirements and liaise with auditors as needed.

About Our Organization

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is committed to providing exceptional shared services to our clients. Our dedicated workforce is focused on delivering high standards of service excellence and fostering strong client relationships based on satisfaction and quality delivery.

As a member of the Financial Accounting Team, you will collaborate with a group of professionals responsible for providing comprehensive financial services, including balance sheet reconciliations and VAT management. This role offers valuable experience for aspiring accountants, with support available for those pursuing professional qualifications. Strong organizational and multitasking skills, along with a solid work ethic, are essential in our fast-paced environment.

Detailed Responsibilities

  1. Ensure the reconciliation and clearance of designated balance sheet accounts, maintaining accurate financial records in accordance with Service Level Agreements.
  2. Manage daily cash allocation and bank reconciliation for assigned clients, ensuring timely and accurate processing of payments.
  3. Oversee recharge accounts, ensuring prompt reconciliation and clearance to maximize client income.
  4. Assist in VAT reconciliation and reporting, providing support for VAT-related queries.
  5. Contribute to the preparation of Annual Statutory Accounts and liaise with external auditors as required.
  6. Input financial transactions into the General Ledger systems, ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  7. Maintain effective communication with client organizations to resolve financial discrepancies.
  8. Support the management of Charitable Funds, ensuring compliance with budgetary constraints.
  9. Participate in the maintenance of Fixed Asset Systems, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  10. Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Financial Accounting Team and the organization.

Professional Development

We encourage continuous personal and professional development, providing opportunities for training and skill enhancement. You will work under the guidance of the Team Leader to ensure adherence to procedures and timelines while taking on additional responsibilities as needed.

Join us in delivering exceptional financial services and contributing to the success of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
