Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Accountant to join our team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role in providing financial accounting services to our client organizations.

Main Responsibilities
  • Reconcile and clear nominated balance sheet accounts by identifying, interpreting, investigating, and resolving complex financial queries.
  • Complete daily cash allocation and bank reconciliation for nominated clients, ensuring accurate financial records and reporting.
  • Manage recharge accounts, ensuring prompt and accurate reconciliation and timely clearance via invoice requests.
  • Reconcile VAT control accounts and input VAT returns under supervision, reviewing consultants' reports and assisting with VAT queries from clients.
  • Assist with the completion of client organizations' Annual Statutory Accounts in line with Department of Health requirements.
  • Input financial ledger corrections and transactions into computerized General Ledger systems in accordance with Service Level Agreements.
  • Ensure all income in respect of client organizations is receipted and banked promptly, liaising with client finance departments, security companies, and GBS and commercial banks.
  • Responsible for receiving, reviewing, interpreting, and responding professionally to queries received from Finance and Non-Finance staff.
  • Complete Month End Creditors for client organizations and Agreement of Balances exercises in respect of income and expenditure for nominated client organizations.
  • Assist with the provision of complex financial information to Internal Auditors to assist with periodic reviews required by client organizations.
  • Responsible for the control, administration, management, and disbursement of nominated Charitable Funds on a daily basis.
  • Assist with the maintenance of nominated client organizations' Fixed Asset Systems, maintaining standing data and recording additions, transfers, and disposals.
  • Produce depreciation figures from the Fixed Asset System, ensuring their accuracy for monthly input to the financial ledgers.
Person Specification
  • Education to Level 4 (AAT level 4, NVQ 4) or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience of computerized financial systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to apply expertise and utilize technology.
  • Able to communicate with client organizations, outside agencies, and the general public in a courteous and dignified manner.
  • Able to use own initiative and work to tight deadlines.
