Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough physiotherapy assessments and develop tailored therapy interventions for individuals with progressive and terminal illnesses.
  • Utilize analytical skills and clinical judgment to inform treatment decisions and apply relevant outcome measures.
  • Deliver high-quality physiotherapy services aimed at enhancing non-pharmacological management of symptoms such as breathlessness and discomfort.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource, promoting non-pharmacological strategies for symptom management within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Lead and coordinate specialized group programs, including advanced care planning sessions, in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Identify patients with complex clinical requirements and seek support from senior physiotherapists to ensure optimal management.
  • Act as an ambassador for the organization within the community.
  • Provide expert physiotherapy guidance and champion rehabilitative palliative care practices across the interdisciplinary team, offering insights on managing patients' functional capabilities and assisting with discharge planning.

Job Duties

  • Ensure accurate completion of patient documentation using appropriate systems and records, adhering to professional standards and organizational policies.
  • Manage a personal caseload across various settings, including inpatient units and community outreach.
  • Oversee the line management of rehabilitation assistants.
  • Assist senior physiotherapists in delivering both formal and informal educational sessions.
  • Stay informed about evidence-based practices in palliative care and integrate relevant guidelines into clinical work.
  • Participate in relevant meetings and collaborative efforts with the allied health professional team to develop effective rehabilitation programs.
  • Engage with patients early to foster independence and autonomy in daily living activities, maximizing their functional engagement.
  • Continuously assess and adapt physiotherapy interventions based on the evolving needs of patients.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or diploma in Physiotherapy with registration from the relevant professional body.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience across a diverse range of clinical areas, including Respiratory, Neurology, Medical, Musculoskeletal, and Community settings.

Desirable

  • Prior experience in palliative care settings.
  • Experience in leading and motivating volunteer teams.
