Job Overview

The role of the Deputy Finance Manager involves collaborating closely with the Senior Finance Manager to spearhead the financial strategy for developing Directorate business plans and presenting these to the clinical group and trust Executive Directors. This position focuses on identifying avenues for financial efficiencies while closely monitoring areas of risk.

The Deputy Finance Manager will serve as the primary Financial Management representative on Directorate Management Teams, tasked with delivering intricate financial management insights and guidance to senior directorate personnel, clinical group, and trust Executive Directors during Performance and Executive reviews. The role ensures the formulation of comprehensive financial forecasts that align with Directorate operational plans, ensuring these are thoroughly understood and accepted by Directorate Management Teams.

Key Responsibilities

In this capacity, the Deputy Finance Manager will provide essential business partnering support to their clinical directorates in all aspects of monthly, annual, and ad hoc financial performance and planning activities. Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing month-end Directorate positions and completing monthly forecasts.
  • Consolidating a monthly performance report for the Directorate in collaboration with the Directorate General Manager and the Senior Finance Manager, and presenting these findings at Directorate meetings.
  • Supporting the annual financial planning process for the Directorate and conducting cost analyses for service developments and savings initiatives.

Job Duties

The Deputy Finance Manager will act as a key business partner for their Directorate, serving as the primary contact for all financial management inquiries. The responsibilities include:

  • Delivering expert finance business partnering support for all regular and ad hoc financial management and business planning activities.
  • Designing and preparing monthly finance reports and forecasts, engaging in discussions with relevant stakeholders across the department.
  • Assisting the Senior Finance Manager in the annual financial planning processes for the Directorate, ensuring the preparation of accurate financial plans that reflect the Directorate's strategies.
  • Communicating effectively with staff at all levels and across various professional disciplines, translating complex financial information into understandable terms for both finance and non-finance personnel.
  • Demonstrating strong time management skills to maintain high-quality outputs while managing competing commitments.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Significant progress towards a CCAB accountancy qualification, with active pursuit of full qualification.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional and personal development training.

Desirable

  • Fully CCAB Qualified.

Experience

  • Extensive experience working within an accounting department, with considerable experience in a specialized financial management role.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with both finance and non-finance staff.
  • Ability to provide or source professional advice and support across all accounting disciplines.
  • Competence in setting and negotiating priorities for oneself and others, effectively programming workload to achieve results and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in applying concepts and techniques for variance analysis and financial reporting.
