Job Overview

The Portering department operates a continuous service across multiple hospital locations, employing a dedicated team of staff. Our primary aim is to deliver exceptional service to our staff, patients, and visitors. We are committed to providing high-quality, personalized care, which is central to our mission.

As part of the Group Operations within Essentia, we manage various operational aspects of the Trust, including Sterile Services, Catering, and Security. The Group Director oversees several Heads of Service, and our department is known for its dynamic and diverse activities.

Key Responsibilities

We seek professional and approachable individuals with a strong work ethic to join our team as Portering Operations Supervisors.

In this role, you will:

  • Supervise daily portering operations and manage the computerized task management system, ensuring effective allocation of work to portering staff.
  • Fill in for site leaders during their absence, maintaining the smooth operation of the department and ensuring proper documentation of staff training, attendance, and disciplinary matters.
  • Deliver essential training, including manual handling and infection control, while ensuring all training records are accurately maintained.
  • Assist in investigating complaints and incidents, responding promptly to any issues that arise.
  • Ensure timely task allocation to portering staff and communicate any delays to service users to maintain a positive patient experience.
  • Log any staff non-attendance to keep supervisors informed of daily changes.
  • Step in for portering or supervisory staff as needed to meet operational demands.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • NVQ Level standard or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in a large organizational setting.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
