About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer - Product Safety Specialist to join our team at BAE Systems Submarines. As a key member of our Integrated Development Team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our submarine systems and capability development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with System Engineers to influence submarine systems and capability development, ensuring that safety considerations are integrated throughout the design and development process.
  • Develop and maintain safety requirements, hazard identification and analysis, and safety documentation to support the delivery of safe and reliable submarine systems.
  • Work closely with the Whole Boat Safety Team and other Integrated Development Teams to ensure that safety management systems are effective and aligned with project milestones.
  • Support the development of safety cases and ensure that safety data is accurately captured and managed.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our safety management system, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes as needed.

Requirements:

  • 2:2 in a Bachelor's or Master's Engineering degree
  • Strong understanding of 'Safety and Systems Engineering' and 'Engineering Life Cycle Management'
  • Experience working in a team environment, with the ability to work independently and deliver tasks with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Practical experience as a Product Safety Engineer in the maritime defence sector is desirable, although experience in other sectors will be considered
