**Job summary**:
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the independent regulator for work-related health and safety. Our purpose is to prevent workplace death, injury or ill health and protect the environment. Engagement and Policy Division (EPD) is at the heart of how HSE reduces risk and protects people and places - it leads on HSE’s communications, business insight interventions and helps shape our policy.
We are recruiting for a Policy Advisor within the Product Safety and Market Surveillance Unit (PSMSU), which is part of Operational Strategy Branch within EPD. PSMSU is responsible not only for frontline interventions to regulate and enforce the product safety requirements for workplace machinery, equipment and goods, PSMSU is also responsible for leading policy across 12 Health and Safety at Work Regulations.
This post is key to developing and delivering policy relevant to health and safety at work and in line with strategic priorities, including Personal Protective Equipment, Work at Height, Control of Noise, Provision and Use of Work Equipment, Pressure Systems Safety, Control of Vibration, Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment, Signs and Signals, Compressed Air, and Health and Safety Leasing Arrangements. You will also be involved in the development and implementation of DBT-led policy on the product safety framework (currently under review) to enable effective frontline regulatory interventions by PSMSU frontline team. Your work will involve a range of policy activities including stakeholder engagement, working collaboratively with colleagues across regulatory, other policy and science disciplines, technical specialists and communications. You will be expected to quickly develop policy expertise and start delivering at pace.
**Job description**:
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop evidence-based policy proposals
- Lead the delivery of workstreams you are responsible for to agreed objectives and timescales
- Draft responses to official correspondence and contributions to MPs letters, ministerial submissions, briefings and parliamentary questions.
- Develop collaborative relationships with stakeholders in other government departments and industry to deliver policy priorities
- Work flexibly to support colleagues in other policy teams when the need arises

**Part-time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week.**
