Colchester, Essex, United Kingdom East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and innovative professional to become a vital member of our Physiotherapy team within the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. This role is ideal for an accomplished Band 5 Physiotherapist eager to advance into a rotational Band 6 position or for established Band 6 practitioners looking for a fresh opportunity.

The available rotations encompass various specialties, including Critical Care, Acute Respiratory Care, Surgical Wards, Medical Respiratory for both adults and children, Oncology, General Medical, Elderly Care, Emergency Medicine, Stroke, and Trauma & Orthopaedics. Community rotations will also be available in Neuro Rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal Outpatients, Community Hospitals, and Community Respiratory. A rotation into the new Elective Orthopaedic Centre will commence upon its opening.

Our staff are expected to engage in 7-day working and participate in the inpatient respiratory on-call rota.

We operate as an Integrated Therapy team, where Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists collaborate closely to deliver exceptional and prompt assessment and discharge planning for our clients. Our therapy services are highly regarded within the trust.

Candidates should possess experience in discharge planning and demonstrate skills in identifying the need for adaptive equipment.

Development roles from Band 5 to Band 6 will be available for those requiring additional support during the initial months to cultivate Band 6 competencies, provided they have completed an NHS preceptorship scheme at Band 5.

Key Responsibilities

You will engage in a competency framework to facilitate participation in the annual Band 6 rotational scheme. This includes rapid assessments, facilitating discharges, specialized rehabilitation, falls prevention, and delivering specialized inpatient services in Critical Care, Stroke, Neurology, and Respiratory care.

Your role will involve conducting safe, evidence-based physiotherapeutic assessments of patients with diverse and complex physical and psychological conditions, delivering tailored treatment programs from a variety of options.

You will undertake comprehensive evaluations of patients, including those with complex presentations, utilizing clinical reasoning and manual assessment techniques to assist in diagnosis and selecting appropriate treatment options to achieve desired outcomes. You will formulate treatment plans and recommend the best course of intervention, taking into account patients' personal goals and objectives, and develop thorough discharge plans.

You will manage your own caseload and a defined area of the service, initially under the supervision of senior staff, progressing towards independent practice. Supervision will include regular formal training, clinical reasoning sessions, peer reviews, and one-on-one assessments.

You will be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your work, including matters related to consent and capacity.

You will also be responsible for managing clinical risks within your patient caseload.
