Colchester, Essex, United Kingdom East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

Are you ready to elevate your career in the fields of Haematology and Blood Transfusion? If you possess a completed specialist portfolio or have significant experience within the NHS, we have an exciting opportunity for you.

Join a dynamic and collaborative team that maintains a strong partnership with our clinical consultant staff. Our department is compliant with MHRA regulations and holds UKAS accreditation.

We operate during unsociable hours and offer a locally agreed fixed remuneration for night shifts. An enhanced relocation package may also be available.

Our mission is to provide innovative, high-performing pathology services that prioritize our customers while ensuring the delivery of high-quality and fully compliant services.

We are clinically driven and structured to harness the advantages of collaboration, meeting the needs of our service users and supporting the exceptional clinical care provided by our hospitals.

We are dedicated to attracting, developing, and retaining top-tier pathology professionals. We encourage our staff to pursue both internal and external training opportunities to enhance their professional growth. You will play a crucial role in mentoring our junior staff, helping them to develop their skills and advance their careers.

Our laboratory is well-equipped and modern, featuring Grifols analysers for blood transfusion, a blood tracking system, and a Contronics temperature monitoring system. In the areas of haematology and coagulation, we utilize Sysmex XNs and ACL TOPS. For quality management, we employ the Q-Pulse system and are in the process of upgrading our existing Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to Winpath Enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will have a diverse range of responsibilities, including:

  • Maintaining the quality management system and ensuring UKAS accreditation.
  • Training and mentoring less experienced staff members.
  • Validating and authorizing laboratory results.
  • Delivering high-quality services to our patients.

You will be expected to troubleshoot complex equipment or process issues and conduct manual, semi-automated, and fully automated laboratory investigations, including specialized tests, within your designated service area with accuracy and efficiency.

Additionally, you will assist in the daily management of stock control and usage, which may involve maintaining inventory levels and records for Blood Transfusion and Haematology, as well as monitoring usage to ensure efficiency.

Our Staff Health and Wellbeing program offers a range of services to support your well-being.

Our philosophy emphasizes that Time Matters to everyone. Throughout the Trust, we focus on enhancing our processes and eliminating delays that affect our staff and patients.

We are committed to our Time Matters initiative through a partnership with a leading electronic patient record (EPR) provider, which will transform the hospital experience for both staff and patients.
