Job Title: Advanced Biomedical Scientist

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Advanced Biomedical Scientist to join our team at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Blood Sciences department, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our team.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the Coagulation and Haematology section, ensuring the maintenance of analysers, and troubleshooting any technical issues. You will also be responsible for monitoring internal and external quality-control performance, initiating remedial action as necessary, and overseeing the writing and updating of SOPs and staff competency logs.

In addition, you will deputise for the Haematology Lead in their absence, providing leadership and guidance to the team. You will also be responsible for overseeing the raising of purchase orders and receipting invoices, networking with referral providers, and dealing with information requests and problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the Coagulation and Haematology section and manage the daily organisation and staffing of the section.
  • Ensure the maintenance of analysers and troubleshoot any technical issues.
  • Monitor internal and external quality-control performance and initiate remedial action as necessary.
  • Oversee the writing and updating of SOPs and staff competency logs.
  • Deputise for the Haematology Lead in their absence and provide leadership and guidance to the team.
  • Oversee the raising of purchase orders and receipting invoices, networking with referral providers, and dealing with information requests and problems.
Person Specification

We are looking for an individual with a Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent, HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist, and appropriate postgraduate qualifications. You will also need to have extensive practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory, experience of managing people, and experience of Pathology IT systems.

Desirable qualifications include a European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent and previous relevant experience of working in the NHS.
