Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our team at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. As an Advanced Biomedical Scientist, you will play a key role in the running of our Haematology & Coagulation service at Colchester Hospital.

Main Responsibilities
  • Supervise the Coagulation and Haematology section and assist in managing the daily organisation and staffing of the section.
  • Ensure the analysers are maintained correctly and undertake any troubleshooting that is required.
  • Deal with engineering visits and organise the section around planned and unplanned analytical downtime.
  • Monitor internal and external quality-control performance and initiate any remedial action required.
  • Deal with stock control and ordering of reagents and materials.
  • The writing and updating of SOPs and staff competency logs and ensure that the section remains ISO:15189 compliant.
  • Deputise for the Haematology Lead in their absence, so a good knowledge of both routine Haematology and Coagulation is required.
  • Oversee the raising of purchase orders and receipting invoices; networking with our referral providers; dealing with information requests and problems.

Person Specification

Essential

  • HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent
  • Appropriate Post Graduate qualifications IBMS Higher Specialist diploma or IBMS Diploma in Biomedical Science, Masters or equivalent or working towards
  • Additional appropriate specialist qualification if required.
  • Evidence of CPD

  • Holding or working towards a qualification that supports management responsibilities such as health and safety, training officer, or quality management associated with post
