About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join our School Nursing Team in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. As a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, you will play a vital role in ensuring that school-age children receive a healthcare service that enables them to reach their educational potential and empowers them to lead healthy lifestyles.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support and signposting to children and young people through young persons' health hubs and the provision of the CHAT HEALTH confidential text in service.
  • Undertake safeguarding duties and work within the Wales Safeguarding Procedures.
  • Support Community Staff Nurses to deliver the Child Measurement Programme and School Entry Health Screening programme.
  • Support the delivery of the school-based immunisation programme.
  • Support with School Nurse service improvement, delivery, and assist in the implementation of the Welsh Government Initiative- Healthy Child Wales Programme for school-aged children.
  • Support educational staff with the delivery of health promotion in schools, if required.

Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • Registered Nurse with entry onto the 3rd part of the NMC Register (SCPHN)
    • Experience of school health/community nursing
    • Extensive post-registration nursing experience
  • Desirable:
    • RN Children's Nursing
    • Ability to work effectively in a team
    • Experience in Paediatric Nursing, Health Promotion/Health Education
Skills and Knowledge
  • Essential:
    • Ability to manage a caseload, lead and work well within a skill-mix team
    • Good communication, organisational, analytical and negotiating skills
    • Knowledge of child protection policies and procedure
    • Ability to support the emotional wellbeing of children and young people
  • Desirable:
    • IT Skills
    • Evidence of personal development within practice
    • Awareness of equal opportunities and valuing diversity
