Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Lead Specialist in Wound Care Services. The successful candidate will possess extensive expertise in wound management acquired through experience in specialized roles within Primary or Community Health settings.

This role encompasses conducting clinical sessions alongside the operational oversight of the wound care service, nursing personnel, and allocated resources. The Lead Specialist will serve as a vital resource for the broader multidisciplinary team (MDT) and the community, offering expert guidance and support for the clinical management of patients.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure optimal staffing levels and skill mix within the team to facilitate efficient service delivery to the practice population.

- Oversee the line management, support, and professional development of the Wound Care team members.

- Manage the performance of individual team members through the Performance Development Review (PDR) process, ensuring that all action plans are effectively implemented and assessed.

- Ensure the efficient and effective utilization of all allocated resources.

- Engage in project development initiatives within the Wound Care Service, including assisting with the implementation of agreed practice changes.

- Evaluate initiatives using methods agreed upon with Senior Nurses for auditing purposes.

- Develop, review, and audit adherence to relevant guidelines and protocols.

- Participate in the investigation of clinical incidents and complaints in accordance with organizational processes. Proficiency in Welsh is desirable for this position; candidates who speak Welsh and/or English are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse.
  • Nursing Degree or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Nurse Prescriber qualification.
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and completion of core skills.
  • Mentorship experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of risk management, safeguarding concerns, and broader governance areas.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Mentorship Qualification.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience as a Band 6 Community Nurse.
  • Confidence and competence in a wide array of clinical skills, particularly in complex wound management.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working within health and social care systems.
