Continuous Improvement and Maintenance Excellence Manager


Pertemps Bond is seeking a skilled professional to take on the role of Maintenance Excellence and Continuous Improvement Manager.


The primary responsibility of this position is to uphold and enhance the integrity of production and quality systems through the effective management of machinery, equipment, processes, and personnel that contribute to business success.

You will also be tasked with delivering cost-efficient asset management through the application of maintenance excellence principles.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday | 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM with a 1-hour lunch break | Additional hours may be necessary based on business requirements.

Compensation: £50,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Implement and establish essential engineering processes in alignment with the Engineering Road Map.
  • Proactively deliver a cost-effective maintenance program to meet site demands for safety, quality, and performance.
  • Plan, enhance, and execute maintenance of site equipment to boost reliability.
  • Possess extensive knowledge and a proven track record in developing and implementing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Drive the people agenda by focusing on talent development and ensuring team members possess the necessary competencies and behaviors.
  • Support operations by analyzing failures and production losses, providing recommendations, and implementing solutions to enhance systems and processes.
  • Lead and execute proactive maintenance, reliability, production excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of operational excellence, coaching teams on the application of principles and tools.
  • Assist in the implementation of smart factory software to enhance reliability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Communicate effectively regarding the status of production lines and equipment based on OEE metrics.
  • Lead, coach, and guide teams to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate annual Criticality Matrix reviews.
  • Drive the execution of the Inventory Management Plan.
  • Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Promote the use of root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques such as RCA, 5 Whys, and DMAIC.
  • Foster a genuine continuous improvement culture within the department.
  • Support the department's 5S initiatives.
  • Drive and support reliability-centered maintenance and Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) activities.
  • Provide leadership to the team, focusing on development and coaching.
  • Inspire the engineering team through effective leadership and coaching.
  • Support the implementation of maintenance excellence initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to planned maintenance schedules through effective resource management.
  • Analyze CMMS data to assist in forward planning and identify opportunities for equipment improvements.

Required Skills:

  • Experience collaborating with contractors, suppliers, and technical staff to troubleshoot and resolve root cause issues.
  • Proficient in planning engineering activities by establishing priorities, scheduling, assigning tasks, and maintaining communication with stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Mainsaver PM, and Office 365.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Significant experience in leading and developing teams.
  • Familiarity with quality standards and the impact of incidents on quality.
  • Effective team player, influencer, and communicator.
  • High levels of enthusiasm and passion for the role.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Recognized Engineering Apprenticeship or an ONC/HNC or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical disciplines, or a degree in a related field.
  • If none of the above, a minimum Level 3 C&G with at least 5 years of experience in a similar industry.
  • Experience in a maintenance environment.
  • Strong logical decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively.
  • Capability to work under pressure.
