Position Overview

The ideal candidate will collaborate effectively with the support staff, radiotherapy professionals, and clinic teams within the radiotherapy department, engaging in both direct and indirect patient care responsibilities.

They will perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks tailored to the operational needs of the department.

This role includes overseeing a team of radiotherapy assistants, facilitating their training and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

This position will assist in the management of Radiotherapy clinics and the clinical functions of the department, serving as a vital member of the radiotherapy clinic staff team:

  • Ensuring that necessary resources are available for the smooth operation of the clinics.
  • Accurate identification of patients and providing chaperoning as needed.
  • Supporting effective scheduling and time management of radiotherapy clinics.
  • Keeping patients informed about various aspects of their radiotherapy journey, including clinic wait times, appointment letters, and procedures.
  • Requesting pertinent tests and obtaining weekly weight measurements of patients undergoing treatment.
  • Independently managing certain radiotherapy clinics.
  • Performing venepuncture, cannula removal, and conducting a range of patient tests and observations.
  • Providing pre-CT information to patients, either in person or via telephone.
  • Escorting patients between wards and the Radiotherapy Department, including the safe handling of equipment such as wheelchairs, beds, oxygen cylinders, drips, and catheters.
  • Ensuring that patients awaiting hospital transport receive high levels of care and attention, along with appropriate support and refreshments.
  • Delivering clerical support services and managing departmental computer systems, including the request, tracking, and organization of patient notes.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including English and Maths.
  • NVQ Level 3 (Care) or NVQ Level 2 (Care) with relevant training, such as venepuncture and cannula removal, or other pertinent experience.

Desirable

  • First Aid Certification.

  • Proficient computer skills and experience.
  • Previous experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience interacting with the public.
  • Experience within the NHS.

  • Experience in caregiving roles.
  • Word-processing skills.
