Position Overview

The East London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a committed Family Support Specialist. In this role, you will deliver evidence-based family support interventions to clients and their families. You will collaborate as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and work alongside other professionals to support families effectively. Candidates should possess training and experience in providing family support in an Early Intervention Service (EIS) or a comparable environment.

Key Responsibilities

In accordance with established guidelines, the successful candidate will conduct evidence-based Family Support sessions for clients and their caregivers. These sessions will generally be co-facilitated with other team members, including psychologists, nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists.

Qualifications and Training

Required

  • A core qualification in mental health, such as Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, or Clinical/Counseling Psychologist.
  • Relevant professional registration (NMC, HCPC).
  • Completion of recognized training in Family Support Interventions for Psychosis.

Experience

Required

  • Experience working with individuals experiencing psychosis.
  • Experience in the early stages of psychosis.
  • Proven ability to engage clients and their families.
  • Experience in delivering evidence-based Family Support models for Psychosis.

Preferred

  • Experience supervising others in the delivery of Family Support.
  • Experience working with diverse cultural groups and utilizing interpreters.

Knowledge and Skills

Required

  • Understanding of psychosis and NICE-recommended treatment approaches.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Effective planning and organizational abilities.
  • Flexibility in approach.
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness.
  • The role necessitates a high level of skill in communicating sensitive topics constructively within a therapeutic context, often involving multiple service users or family members with differing perspectives.
