We are seeking a Senior Retail Strategy Consultant to play a pivotal role in the advancement and implementation of our Retail strategy. This position is essential in assisting the Head of Retail Strategy and involves significant responsibilities, including acting on behalf of the Head of Retail Strategy, nurturing relationships with senior stakeholders, and directing the most intricate and large-scale strategic projects.
The successful candidate will be key in managing the Retail Objectives and Key Results (OKR) and Quarterly Business Review (QBR) processes, which includes reporting to the Group CEO and assisting various business sectors in defining and tracking their OKRs. Staying attuned to industry trends and competitor movements will be crucial, as this information will be synthesized for the Retail Executive team.
Additionally, the Senior Retail Strategy Consultant will promote best practices in collaboration and lead cross-Retail initiatives, while also serving as a mentor to the Business Owner community. This role transcends mere strategy formulation; it emphasizes effective execution and the cultivation of a collaborative and high-performance culture throughout the Retail division.
Key Responsibilities- Steering the strategic planning cycle by creating Retail board documents, reports, presentations, and supplementary materials in line with Group planning standards, coordinating Retail Quarterly Business Reviews, and assisting Managing Directors in crafting business area strategies.
- Taking ownership of complex strategic analyses by conducting and delivering both quantitative and qualitative assessments (including customer insights) and synthesizing results into actionable strategic recommendations.
- Facilitating and organizing strategic workshops with relevant senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Supervising competitor and market analysis to inform Retail and business area strategies, leading the synthesis of findings for Retail leadership.
- Overseeing the creation of the UK Financial Services landscape map.
- Assisting the Head of Strategy with ad-hoc requests from the CEO and Executive team (e.g., CFO, Managing Directors, CTO), including competitor analysis, market sizing, and focused research.
- Supporting the definition and development of strategies and plans to ensure that business development activities align with Legal & General's commitment to Customer Experience and Treating Customers Fairly.
We are looking for candidates who possess:
- Relevant academic credentials, preferably in business, management, economics, or a related field.
- Experience in strategic or management consulting, particularly within Financial Services (with a focus on sectors such as Pensions, Savings, Retirement, Protection, and Mortgages).
- Familiarity with strategic planning processes and methodologies.
- Proficiency in financial modeling.
- Strong research and analytical capabilities to extract meaningful insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including high proficiency in PowerPoint) to effectively convey compelling messages and analyses to engage senior stakeholders.
- The ability to cultivate relationships, connect with others, and interact effectively with both senior leaders and divisional colleagues, while also challenging stakeholders when necessary.
- Foundational skills in financial modeling (e.g., creating basic market sizing and forecasting).
- A customer-centric mindset.
- Experience in managing a small team.
