About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Control Systems Engineer to join our team at AG Barr. As an Electrical Control Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting and enhancing the functionality of our PLC/HMI and Process automation technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implementing planned maintenance programmes and schedules, recommending improvements to ensure efficiencies are maximised.
  • Analysing line efficiency, wastage and downtime data to identify areas for performance improvement.
  • Carrying out fault diagnosis and repair breakdowns promptly to minimise downtime.
  • Working closely with the Project Engineering Team to deliver key critical elements of our business CAPEX plan, including identifying and managing electrical controls aspects of all new installations, upgrades, retrofits, and CI projects.
  • Developing PLC/Network standards to support our IT/OT infrastructure with new projects.
  • Acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and maintaining a high standard of control over Management of Change processes internally and when dealing with vendors.
  • Carrying out all duties in accordance with safe working practices and factory hygiene standards, providing a deeper understanding of safety systems and automation to the engineering and projects teams.
  • Producing detailed written reports as required, including downtime sheets and line log books.
  • Consulting manufacturers' manuals and reading detailed technical drawings to identify and validate replacement part requirements.
  • Mentoring and training others in PLC, HMI, automated applications, and programming, including developing training materials.
  • Liaising with external suppliers and contractors relating to automation control, software validation, and development, acting as a point of contact/permit holder on site where required to maintain compliance and validate works.
  • Creating and maintaining a comprehensive library of asset data to guide and define our overarching software architecture.
  • Continually researching and keeping pace with cutting-edge developments to ensure asset software is compliant and meets all legislative standards.
Requirements
  • Minimum HNC level or equivalent in an Electrical engineering discipline, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in Engineering control and automation.
  • Preferably experienced within a multi-skilled food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of computerised maintenance systems and processes.
  • Proven knowledge and experience of initiating and implementing continuous improvements, lean manufacturing, and Six sigma techniques.
  • Experience of working on Siemens S7 PLC's and TIA Portal.
  • Ability to communicate within smart factory/industry 4.0 environments.
  • Knowledge of Profibus/ASIbus and Ethernet networking systems.
  • Strong understanding of Servo Drives and associated controls.
  • Familiarity with Variable Speed Drives.
  • Possess programming skills in relation to Fanuc Robot Systems.
  • Ability to Programme and 'Back Up' HMI's using proprietary software.
  • Attention to detail, with a real focus on accuracy, and the ability to spot discrepancies and inaccuracies with ease.
  • Completer finisher, adopting a logical and methodical approach, and being able to be relied upon not to give up and to see jobs through from start to finish.
  • Problem-solver, tenacious, and using creativity, innovation, and an analytical approach to exhaust all options until a satisfactory solution is found.
  • Ability to work well under your own supervision.
  • A proactive attitude, with a flair for quick and efficient learning, which equips you well to adapt to the latest emerging i4.0 technologies.
