Consultant Psychiatrist Opportunity

Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Consultant Psychiatrist to join its adult mental health services. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with complex mental health needs.

The Trust operates a functional model, with Consultant Psychiatrists working with community patients only. The adult Single Point of Access (SPA) Team triages all referrals, and the Crisis and Home Treatment Team provides intensive support. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver excellent patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership and expertise in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Develop and implement effective treatment plans for patients with complex mental health needs
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care
  • Participate in the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures
  • Contribute to the education and training of junior staff members
Person SpecificationQualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Excellent knowledge in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Ability to work constructively in and to lead a multidisciplinary team
