Job Title: Business Analyst in Clinical Coding

The Business Analyst role within the Clinical Coding department is essential for delivering accurate, timely, and consistent coding services. This position is vital for maintaining high standards of data integrity and supporting various analytical and operational outcomes.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Drive ongoing enhancements in data accuracy by keeping abreast of medical, surgical, and coding advancements
  • Conduct reviews of patient records to ensure superior performance metrics
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the various IT platforms utilized by the organization
  • Oversee and uphold clinical coding standards to ensure data integrity
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to clarify and validate data
  • Comprehend hospital administrative systems to identify and correct discrepancies
  • Investigate and resolve complex issues related to clinical coding data

Job Responsibilities:

  • Convert medical terminology into standardized clinical codes
  • Adhere to national coding guidelines for accurate patient representation
  • Code according to professional standards within designated timeframes
  • Manage workload effectively, particularly during peak periods
  • Review and amend details in patient records and clinical databases
  • Address coding challenges in a timely manner
  • Engage with stakeholders to promote quality coding practices
  • Provide mentorship to junior coding personnel
  • Efficiently manage workload and IT systems
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and contribute to improvement initiatives
  • Support the advancement of the Clinical Coding Department
  • Conduct quality assessments of coding staff and assist in revenue recovery efforts
  • Collaborate with relevant teams to ensure accurate coding
  • Assist in the formulation of policies and adhere to directives from leadership

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Nationally Accredited Clinical Coder Qualification (ACC)

Desirable:

  • PRINCE2 Certification

Experience:

Essential:

  • Comprehensive experience in Clinical Coding, including auditing and mentorship

Desirable:

  • Strong analytical skills and project management experience

Knowledge:

Essential:

  • In-depth understanding of ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Expertise in Data Administration Systems and Data Quality standards

Personal Skills:

Essential:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication
  • Aptitude for resolving coding inquiries and generating reports
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
