Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Clinical Haematology Pharmacist to become a vital part of our skilled and welcoming team, focused on delivering an advanced clinical service in Oncology and Haematology, alongside the provision of aseptic products.

This position is ideal for individuals with prior hospital experience, particularly in aseptics and oncology, who are looking to transition into a more specialized pharmacist role.

Our department has recently undergone a comprehensive transformation, incorporating modern technology such as a Chemotherapy EPMA system, automated robotic dispensing, and enhanced e-Rostering capabilities.

Main Responsibilities

As the specialist Clinical Haematology Pharmacist, you will:

  • Provide pharmaceutical support to haematology and oncology services under the guidance of the Lead Pharmacist for Oncology & Haematology.
  • Assist the Aseptics Team by monitoring and verifying chemotherapy preparations.
  • Actively contribute to the Haem-Oncology Pharmacy team, aligning with the strategic goals for pharmaceutical care of cancer and medical patients.

Job Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring prescriptions for haematology and oncology medications to ensure safe and appropriate use in line with established guidelines.
  • Liaising with medical and nursing staff to serve as the primary link between haematology and pharmacy.
  • Verifying chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition products after completing the necessary training.
  • Contributing to the training of pharmacists in chemotherapy verification as requested.
  • Providing monthly chemotherapy statistics to support funding and data reporting requirements.
  • Assisting in the management of the chemotherapy e-prescribing system, including protocol updates.
  • Stepping in for the Lead Pharmacist in their absence and aiding in the education of staff in this specialized area.
  • Offering pharmaceutical care advice to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ensuring high-quality dispensing and issuing of medications according to established procedures.
  • Participating in weekend and emergency duties as per the rota.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Registered Pharmacist (General Pharmaceutical Council)
  • Bachelor/Master of Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
  • Post-graduate Clinical Diploma
  • Post-graduate Clinical Certificate

Desirable:

  • IT/ECDL
  • GCP certificate

Experience

Essential:

  • Relevant hospital pharmacy experience
  • Clinical pharmacy experience

Desirable:

  • Experience in small group coaching
  • DUR and audit experience
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills

Knowledge and Skills

Essential:

  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Pharmaceutical knowledge and clinical skills
  • Effective time management and prioritization
  • Proficiency in IT applications
  • Ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations
