We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our Cardiology Ward team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care, leading by example, and contributing to the development of our nursing practice.
About the RoleThis is a full-time position, and you will be working on our 34-bedded Cardiology Ward, which includes six Direct Access Trolleys to support the flow of our cardiac patients. You will be expected to demonstrate a proven track record of clinical and professional experience, excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, and a willingness to develop your leadership skills and have a teaching and assessing qualification.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-quality patient care, adhering to our trust's standards and guidelines.
- Lead by example, demonstrating a positive and enthusiastic attitude, and inspiring and leading a team.
- Develop and implement effective care plans, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to the development of our nursing practice, participating in quality improvement initiatives and sharing best practices.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, providing guidance and support to ensure their growth and development.
- Participate in learning from incidents and supporting changes in practice, ensuring a culture of safety and excellence.
We are looking for a candidate with:
- Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register.
- Substantial post-registration experience working in a complex healthcare setting or acute NHS care setting, supervising and mentoring junior staff.
- Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge in the area, supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD.
- Ability to demonstrate understanding, experience, and willingness to be a practice-based supervisor/assessor, as detailed in the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment.
- Professional portfolio that demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration.
- Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality/acute care setting, including the supervision/education of junior staff.
- Experience of mentoring undergraduate students.
- Ability to lead/coordinate a shift/area of department.
- Experience in learning from incidents/complaints and supporting changes in practice.
- Demonstrable ability, experience, passion in leadership, team building, managing resources, time management, role modeling, change management/clinical developments, clinical governance, audit and research, workforce planning/management, and NHS policy and political awareness.
