Job Summary

The Perinatal Matron will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in the perinatal services. This individual will collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement strategies that promote a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement operational workforce planning to ensure adequate staffing levels and skill mix to deliver high-quality care.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to achieve national staffing establishment levels and fill rates by 2027/28 for midwifery and neonatal nursing staff.
  • Develop and implement staff retention improvement action plans to identify and address local training opportunities and retention issues.
  • Implement the core competency framework to guide local mandatory training programs and ensure staff skills remain relevant to their roles.
  • Ensure all perinatal staff have opportunities for continuous professional development through assessing training and learning needs, planning, implementing, and evaluating education and training.
  • Provide leadership and management expertise to promote the teaching, training, and ongoing development of midwifery and nursing staff.
  • Ensure the non-registered workforce's personal, professional, and practice development is an active process within Perinatal Services.
