Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality teaching and assessment to students, ensuring an excellent student experience.
  • Conduct research and scholarship in a priority area within electrical and electronics engineering, contributing to the School's research excellence.
  • Play a leadership role in academic and professional expertise, developing and sustaining personal and group research.
  • Contribute to the planning, organisation, and delivery of high-quality teaching, supervision, and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Establish and sustain a track record of independent and joint publications of international quality in high-impact refereed journals, generating research impact.
  • Develop and maintain collaborations with colleagues across the School and external academic and industrial partners.
  • Contribute to team/group meetings, seminars, workshops, and activities to enhance the wider knowledge, outputs, and culture of the School.
  • Manage academic administrative activities, including timely delivery of effective and constructive feedback on assessment and provision of pastoral support.
  • Contribute to the management and organisational duties of the School, as assigned by an Executive Dean.
  • Engage in personal, professional, and career development.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of the University's international profile in line with the University's Strategic Plan.
Requirements
  • A Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 [PhD] or equivalent in a related discipline with a growing reputation for scholarship.
  • A developing national/international reputation, evidenced by esteem indicators, in a field that matches or enhances existing activities within the School.
  • An extensive and established reputation in research and teaching within the subject area to develop new knowledge and understanding.
  • An extensive and established reputation in research and/or teaching within an existing area in the School, as evidenced by esteem indicators.
  • Knowledge of the higher education environment in China and East Asia.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex data/concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Appropriate workload/time/project/budget/people management skills.
  • Extensive IT and data analysis/interpretation skills.
  • A strong commitment to high-quality, research-led, student-oriented teaching and proven ability to engage students to inspire learning.
  • Excellent leadership skills, able to develop early career academic colleagues and manage a research team.
  • Excellent influencing and collaboration skills to facilitate shaping the research agenda of the academic community and funders.
  • Exceptional commitment to high-quality teaching, enthusing students, and inspiring learning.
  • Sufficient depth of relevant research experience, including postdoctoral experience, appropriate to an early career researcher.
  • Excellent track record of development and delivery of teaching, tutoring, or demonstrating at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
  • Demonstrate enhanced leadership, academic responsibility, and strategic management, particularly through internationally leading research, outputs, and funding.
