The Operational Development Engineer will assist the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Team Leads in executing the Pre-operations program, aligned with the overall project timeline.

You will conduct design and equipment contract evaluations to ensure that Hinkley Point C (HPC) adheres to operational safety and performance standards.

Your responsibilities will include shaping the future of Nuclear Power Stations in the UK by developing and implementing equipment reliability processes and maintenance strategies essential for a safe and dependable plant. You will also provide technical guidance during the construction phase of HPC, gaining insights into Nuclear and Conventional systems in preparation for the equipment handover from Commissioning. This is crucial for the startup of Hinkley Point C (HPC) power station and the ongoing technical management for 60 years of commercial operation.

Key Responsibilities...

The daily tasks of the Operational Development Engineer will encompass, but are not limited to:

Planning, monitoring, and managing activities, risks, and requirements associated with the assigned Pre-Operations tasks. Evaluating design and equipment contract information for specific systems and station facilities to ensure they meet our objectives for enhanced safety and performance during the operational phase. Contributing to the development of standards, procedures, and frameworks that support safe and reliable plant operations. Assisting in the creation of the HPC Operating Technical Specifications and Periodic Test procedures on behalf of Pre-Operations. Maintaining technical and functional interfaces with other HPC departments (such as Design Authority, Owner's Engineering, Construction Planning, Safety) and entities of the Responsible Designer to ensure future operational requirements are seamlessly integrated into the HPC design. Providing input for managing Technical Issues that could affect future plant availability. Researching operational experiences from the broader nuclear industry relevant to the HPC project and advocating for their application to achieve World Class performance. Maximizing effective use of time and personal capabilities; working flexibly within your skill range; undertaking appropriate training and development to enhance skills and abilities to meet business needs.

Ideal Candidate Profile...

HNC/Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline. Proven experience in developing and reviewing technical documentation. Proactive and analytical mindset, capable of independent work and initiative. Strong understanding of quality standards and requirements within the UK nuclear regulatory framework. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Exceptional organizational and IT capabilities. Strong commercial awareness and business insight. Knowledge of maintenance practices in large engineering organizations across mechanical or electrical engineering disciplines. Familiarity with an Asset Management tool (Passport/Orbit/Asset Suite 9, etc).

You may also possess any of the following:

Chartered Status, or actively pursuing Chartered Status with a relevant Engineering or Science Institute. Proven experience in a project-based organization. Demonstrated experience in nuclear or similarly regulated environments. Knowledge and hands-on experience with light water pressurized reactors. Experience in developing and delivering training programs, with familiarity with the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) process. Understanding of human performance and error prevention methodologies.
