Job Description

Job Title: Operations Manager - Aircraft Production

Location: Global Supply Chain

Salary: Competitive package including pension scheme, annual leave allowance, and share incentive plan

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our aircraft production operations, ensuring the delivery of complex aircraft and service solutions. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading a large production workforce, developing and maintaining strong customer relationships, and driving process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a large production workforce of over 500 employees, ensuring the delivery of aircraft and service solutions according to complex programme plans.
  • Develop and maintain strong, high-profile customer relationships, positioning BAE Systems as a trusted partner in the global supply chain.
  • Identify dependencies, stakeholders, and risks, and prioritize workloads across multi-functional teams, including Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Logistics, and Project Management.
  • Ensure compliance with all Safety, Manufacturing, and People processes while delivering maintenance programmes and upgrades within departmental budgets.
  • Drive continuous process and efficiency improvements through the adoption of emerging technologies and data analysis.
  • Engage and lead a highly unionized workforce, fostering a collaborative and forward-thinking work environment.

Requirements:

  • Educated to degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline with proven experience in a manufacturing and engineering business environment.
  • Member of a recognized professional Engineering institute.
  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of Manufacturing Engineering disciplines, processes, toolsets, procedures, standards, and technologies.
  • Broad knowledge of Manufacturing operations, including quality management, facility management, supplier management, research and development, production operations, and logistics planning and control.
  • Depth of knowledge of a matrix organization/programme/cross-functional business.
  • Full understanding of the IBP and financial processes and management/HR processes.
  • Working knowledge of the Life Cycle Management and Operational Framework processes.
  • Proven experience and credibility to gain confidence of the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Procurement senior management teams.
  • Knowledge of people development requirements, core technical and behavioral competence in the function.
  • Long-term strategic planning and tactical thinking.
  • Practical problem-solving of complex issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse range of technical and leadership deliverables.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and ability to communicate, influence, and direct decision-making at all levels.
