Position Overview

Are you a dedicated Band 5 Neonatal Nurse or a Band 6 nurse seeking a rewarding opportunity? We invite qualified Band 6 specialty neonatal nurses to become part of our NICU team at Cambridge University Hospitals, where you will contribute to exceptional neonatal care. You will enhance your clinical, leadership, and management capabilities within a supportive senior team framework, working across various clinical settings including ITU, HDU, and SCBU.

Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a key tertiary center within the Eastern Neonatal Network, providing critical care for infants requiring advanced medical interventions, including surgical procedures. This state-of-the-art facility is integrated within the Perinatal Centre at our hospital. We have recently achieved a Bliss Baby Charter Bronze Award, reflecting our commitment to improving the neonatal experience for families. Additionally, our trust hosts the Regional Transport Service and the core ODN Team, offering unique professional development opportunities beyond the NICU.

We provide a comprehensive orientation program and tailored professional support to help you reach your full potential, alongside ongoing guidance from our Neonatal Clinical Education Team. You will have the chance to join a link team, positively influencing the family journey, and we are developing dedicated QIS learning opportunities for your continuous professional growth.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering safe and effective care to neonates in intensive care, high dependency, and special care settings, operating independently in all situations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing care requirements, planning, implementing, and evaluating care programs.
  • Participating in the supervision, mentorship, and evaluation of both pre-registration and post-registration staff.
  • Coordinating unit management regularly.
  • Overseeing the management of special care, high dependency, or intensive care rooms.
  • Exhibiting leadership capabilities.
