Work Environment

We promote a hybrid working model at Engine, encouraging you to work within a reasonable distance from our offices to facilitate in-person collaboration. The balance between office and remote work is flexible and can be discussed with your manager.

Engineering at Engine

We are passionate about platform engineering, committed to delivering software in a reliable, scalable, and maintainable way. As our platform grows, we face new challenges in software delivery. All engineers are responsible for features from inception to deployment and operation in production. We utilize a first principles approach to dissect problems and implement solutions throughout the software lifecycle.

As an Engineer at Engine, you will contribute to building, scaling, and deploying our premier cloud-native banking platform across multiple cloud providers and regions globally. You will have the opportunity to engage in various aspects of our platform, fostering a multi-disciplinary engineering culture. Key areas of focus include:

  • Toolchain Development
  • Build and Deployment Systems
  • Observability and Reliability
  • Runtime Orchestration; Control and Data Planes
  • Global Multi-Cloud Architectures
  • SaaS API Management and Security
  • Core Java Platform

We do not expect you to have prior experience in all these areas; we seek curious individuals eager to explore multiple disciplines and grow their expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, document, build, and maintain scalable infrastructure on GCP
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design hybrid-cloud systems, utilizing AWS and co-locating Payment HSMs in data centers globally
  • Ensure performance and reliability of cloud environments while measuring cost-effectiveness
  • Embrace automation and minimize manual implementations
  • Implement security best practices
  • Ensure platform compliance with ISO27001, SOC2, and PCI-DSS
  • Address infrastructure-related issues raised by clients
  • Share knowledge through technical documentation and training sessions
  • Stay informed about new technologies and industry changes

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be an inquisitive Infrastructure Engineer, skilled at finding clean and straightforward solutions to technical challenges. A passion for building observable and reliable systems that positively impact the broader engineering organization is essential. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services such as GKE, Compute Engine, Shared VPC, CloudSQL, and IAM
  • Experience setting up Google Workspace / Google Cloud Identity
  • Familiarity with service-oriented architecture, containers, distributed systems, and immutable infrastructure
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and provisioning tools
  • Knowledge of observability software
  • Automation experience using scripting languages like Python or Golang
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs and web technologies
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Zero Trust security (MTLS, SSO)
  • Familiarity with AWS
  • Certifications in GCP
  • Understanding of database monitoring, analysis, disaster recovery, and performance tuning
  • Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks like ISO27001, SOC2, and PCI-DSS
  • Understanding of networking and routing concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, BGP, etc.)

Our Interview Process

We view interviewing as a mutual opportunity to learn about each other. Our interviews are conversational, designed to bring out the best in you. Generally, you can expect the following steps after an initial chat with our Talent Team:

  • Initial interview with an Engineer - approximately 45 minutes
  • Take-home technical test to discuss in the next interview
  • Technical interview with several Engineers - duration varies
  • Final interview with our CTO or deputy CTO - approximately 45 minutes
