About the Role

We are offering a 12-month Maternity Cover position for a legal advisor within ENGIE UK, focusing on our Renewable and Storengy sectors. The successful candidate will provide prompt and commercially sound legal counsel, assisting in the negotiation and drafting of various commercial and contractual matters, including tenders, project agreements, construction contracts, supply chain negotiations, and ongoing operational issues, while also addressing risk management, governance, and compliance.

We are open to part-time applicants who can work 3 to 4 days a week. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the capability to work independently and advance their own negotiations and projects. Additionally, this role will support the Country General Counsel and Ethics Officer in ensuring compliance with UK Ethics and the implementation of Group Ethics policies.

This position is hybrid, with the successful candidate expected to work from our office for two days each week. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, along with the opportunity to contribute to the energy transition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing legal support for a wide range of complex commercial outsourcing transactions, benefiting the ENGIE UK business;
  • Delivering commercial legal advice;
  • Assisting in the governance of transactions at both local and group levels;
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues across the Group and with clients;
  • Managing external legal resources for specific projects;
  • Advising operational teams on effective strategies regarding disputes that have not yet escalated;
  • Experience in the energy sector is advantageous but not mandatory;
  • Participating in the development and delivery of training on various legal issues for colleagues;
  • Taking ownership of and progressing personal files and projects;
  • Supporting compliance with ENGIE UK Ethics policies.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong understanding of relevant legal areas, including outsourcing, construction, and commercial contracts. Familiarity with the energy sector is preferred but not essential.
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation abilities.
  • Capability to manage risk, governance, and compliance effectively.
  • Adept at handling a substantial workload in a dynamic environment.
  • Comfortable with stakeholder management while also collaborating with colleagues at all organizational levels.
  • Qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK (or equivalent common law jurisdiction) with ideally 6 years or more of post-qualification experience. Flexibility will be considered based on the quality of experience.
Experience:
  • Proven experience in construction transactions and supply chain negotiations.
  • Extensive experience in the lifecycle of commercial contracts.
  • Experience advising on pre-litigation contract disputes.
  • Leadership experience in complex transactions.
  • Some exposure to energy projects is preferred.
  • Experience managing an independent workload.
