At Electricity North West, our tree management team plays a crucial role in preventing unexpected power outages for residents in the North West region.

Our annual tree management initiative aims to significantly minimize and avert power interruptions while ensuring the proactive upkeep of our overhead network.

As a Surveyor, you will operate autonomously, collaborating with landowners to perform UA5 surveys on our extensive overhead infrastructure. You will be responsible for managing your own schedule and completing all survey-related tasks to ensure the effective maintenance of trees near overhead power lines. Key responsibilities include:

  • Engaging and negotiating with third parties to secure optimal tree clearances;
  • Working with clients to develop comprehensive tree clearance plans;
  • Prioritizing exceptional customer service in all interactions;
  • Creating tree cutting work packages that align with operational standards;
  • Conducting site-specific risk assessments and integrating safe working practices into work packages.

Adhering to British Standards, you will prune trees to maintain their natural form. Given that falling branches are a leading cause of unplanned power outages in the area, joining our team provides the opportunity to influence both the vegetation surrounding overhead power lines and the electricity supply for local residents.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling the establishment of effective working relationships with clients and customers;
  • RFS in arboriculture or an equivalent qualification;
  • An NPTC UA1 + UA5 certification;
  • Basic chainsaw operation skills (desirable);
  • Aerial rescue certification (desirable);
  • Experience with windblown/medium trees (desirable);
  • A valid driving license (essential), preferably with B+E (trailer towing);
  • LANTRA/NPTC chipper certification (desirable);
  • NPTC backpack spraying certification (desirable);
  • Proven teamwork abilities with the capacity to mentor less experienced colleagues;
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently;
  • A results-oriented mindset with the capability to meet deadlines;
  • Proficiency in using laptops, word processing software, and spreadsheets.

This role is based out of our operational hub, and the successful candidate can expect to work throughout the surrounding areas.
