Position Overview

We are seeking to recruit two Senior Cardiothoracic Consultants to join our esteemed team at the Regional Cardiac Centre. The successful candidates will collaborate with a dedicated group of 11 Consultant colleagues specializing in Cardiac, Thoracic, and Cardiothoracic surgery. Participation in a 1:6 cardiac on-call rota is expected, with a specific focus on aortic surgery on a 1:4 rota under consideration.

The appointees will be integral members of a multi-disciplinary team based at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre, contributing to the high standards of care provided by the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Our unit boasts well-established subspecialties, and we encourage candidates with a keen interest in Major Aortic surgery to apply. The role will involve participation in the network vascular MDT, collaboration with Interventional Radiology, and involvement in an aortic dissection on-call service. Candidates with a proven track record or post-CCT fellowship experience in Major Aortic surgery will be highly regarded.

Legal Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion within six months of the interview date.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).

Qualifications and Training

Essential Criteria:

  • MB ChB or equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of six months of experience in Cardiothoracic surgery.

Skills and Abilities

Essential Criteria:

  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient teaching abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and supervise staff effectively.
  • Capability to motivate and inspire a multi-disciplinary team while working collaboratively across organizations.
  • Experience in service development and managing change within a healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to make informed decisions.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Proficiency in computer and IT skills.
  • Educational qualifications or progress towards them.
  • Interest and capability in minimal access cardiac surgery.

Management Skills

Essential Criteria:

  • Awareness of NHS organizational structure and core values.
  • Understanding of the management responsibilities associated with NHS consultant roles.
  • Participation in a management training program.
