Job Overview
The Pre-operative Assessment Team is seeking a dedicated and motivated registered nurse who is passionate about providing evidence-based, patient-focused care in the peri-operative setting.
The ideal candidate will be expected to leverage their expertise and experience to enhance the development of innovative pathways for patients preparing for surgical procedures.
Collaboration with ward staff, admissions, outpatient services, surgical teams, pharmacy, and members of the multidisciplinary team is essential to ensure streamlined and patient-centered care.
Main Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Lead Practitioner to establish and maintain a high-quality peri-operative assessment service tailored to the needs of all patients requiring anesthesia and surgery.
- Deliver exceptional patient care by adhering to research-based practices and established protocols.
- Perform the duties of a trained pre-assessment nurse, including competencies specific to the assigned specialty.
- Guide and mentor junior team members or new staff in the department.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care programs for patients undergoing surgical procedures within the designated theatre environment.
- Coordinate departmental activities and manage patient flow effectively.
- Utilize appropriate tools for triaging patients.
- Act as a deputy for the department sister in their absence to ensure the smooth operation of the Pre-operative department.
- Exercise autonomy within defined competencies and recognize when to make appropriate referrals.
- Foster close collaboration with ward staff, admissions, outpatient services, surgical teams, pharmacy, and multidisciplinary team members to enhance patient-centered care.
- Promote an approachable and inclusive atmosphere by leading by example.
