About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our team at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. As a key member of our Paediatric Diabetes Service, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to children and young people with diabetes.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of patients with diabetes, working towards achieving relevant competencies for assessment, diagnosis, management, and evaluation of treatment and care.
  • Collaborate with the Specialist Nurse and Consultant Team to develop and implement evidence-based care plans for children and young people with diabetes.
  • Contribute to the overall strategy of the Paediatric Diabetes Service, ensuring compliance with Best Practice Tariff guidelines.
  • Provide education and support to healthcare professionals and serve as a point of contact for professionals working outside organisational boundaries.
  • Work across various settings, including office, outpatients, children's ward, and community settings.
Person Specification
  • Registered Child Branch or Registered Sick Children's Nurse (RSCN), with current active registration with the NMC.
  • Working towards a BSc Degree in a relevant field, such as child nursing or long-term conditions.
  • Valid driving license and car ownership.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and willingness to undertake relevant training and workshops.
  • Strong organisational skills, forward planning, and ability to gather data and compile reports.
  • Knowledge and understanding of national diabetes guidelines and ambition to develop within the specialism.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Understanding of health policy and the national and local nursing agenda.
  • Prior experience of conducting nurse-led clinics and working in a community setting.
