Position Overview

We are excited to present an exceptional opportunity within our Children and Young People's (CYP) Therapies service. With recent investments from the Local Authority, we have established a Speech and Language Therapy Mainstream Education Lead position aimed at providing optimal support for children with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) in mainstream educational environments.

We are currently seeking a (full time/part time) Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join our integrated Children and Young People's Therapies service. The position will primarily focus on supporting various educational settings.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the Mainstream Education SLT Leads team, your specialized role will encompass:

  • Collaborating with Clinical Quality Leads and other SLT leads to shape and enhance service delivery.
  • Engaging with mainstream educational institutions, fostering relationships within your designated areas, and being responsive to feedback to improve service provision.
  • Serving as a liaison for clusters of schools, providing leadership support to therapy teams within these groups.
  • Delivering training, expert advice, and support on SLCN to therapy teams and educational settings.
  • Partnering with Lead Therapy Assistant Practitioners to plan and evaluate relevant training aimed at enhancing the skills of the wider children's workforce.
  • Collaborating with local team leads to support the SLT team in building capacity through clinical supervision and leadership.

Compensation

This position includes a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary, subject to a maximum payment of £1,915 per annum (pro rata where applicable and dependent on base location).

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Recognized Speech & Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent (Post Graduate Diploma or MSc in Speech & Language Therapy).
  • Evidence of postgraduate training and/or equivalent experience to maintain and develop highly specialized knowledge in the area of expertise.
  • Registered to practice with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).
  • Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, with membership in relevant Clinical Excellence Networks (CEN).

Desirable

  • Experience working with educational stakeholders and partners.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience in multidisciplinary/agency collaboration related to the specialty.
  • Highly specialized clinical skills, including assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children and young people with a range of SLCN.
  • Experience in delivering training.
  • Commitment to involving patients and service users in the design and development of service provision.
  • Evidence of participation in service improvement relevant to the clinical area.
  • Understanding of the Special Educational Needs Assessment process related to supporting children in both special and mainstream schools, including contributions to their Education, Health, and Care Plans.

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to liaise and negotiate effectively.
  • Ability to convey and receive complex and sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of barriers to understanding and the ability to simplify complex issues.
  • Adept at analyzing and interpreting complex data.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Excel, databases, and PowerPoint.
