Activity Leader - Summer Camp

Working Hours: 08:30 - 17:30

Compensation: £559.17 per week, subject to age, experience, and qualifications.

Reporting To: Camp Senior Team, Area Manager, and Central Office. Barracudas is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, expecting all staff to share this commitment.

Activity Leader roles are structured around a minimum of 4 days per week, with a designated day off each week, confirmed by your Recruiter/Camp Manager. Although the contract is based on a minimum of 4 days, there may be occasions where full 5-day work is necessary, depending on booking numbers and staffing needs.

Notifications regarding your schedule will be provided at the end of each week, and the designated day off may vary. If a specific day off is required, prior authorization is necessary.

Key Responsibilities of the Activity Leader

  • Assist in setting up and maintaining an inviting base room area for children, ensuring tidiness and proper storage of equipment.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure a fun and safe environment for children.
  • Follow the daily activity timetable to deliver a diverse range of sessions as promised by Barracudas.
  • Collaborate with the wider staff team to facilitate sessions.
  • Provide active supervision and attention to meet the needs of children throughout the day, including during breaks and lunch.
  • Utilize available resources to plan and deliver engaging activities that are age-appropriate.
  • Encourage maximum participation from children in the group.
  • Build rapport with children, understanding their interests and incorporating them into daily activities.
  • Take responsibility for the general welfare and safeguarding of children.
  • Ensure safe usage of equipment during sessions and proper storage afterwards.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience or qualifications in working with children.
  • Must be 18 years or older by the contract start date.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Provision of satisfactory professional or academic references.
  • Enthusiastic, caring, and organized with excellent communication skills and initiative.
  • Ability to adapt and manage unpredictable challenges in a childcare environment.
  • Obtain an enhanced DBS check through Barracudas or possess an existing enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
  • Attend a Virtual Assessment Event if new to Barracudas.
  • Complete annual Online Training.
  • Participate in an Induction Training Day prior to the first working season.
  • Assist with the end-of-camp pack-up.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety obligations by following instructions and demonstrating a proactive approach to safety.
  • Organize and deliver activities appropriate for the children in your care, based on your qualifications and skills.
  • Encourage children to participate in new activities, ensuring adherence to the activity timetable.
  • Maintain safety by being aware of children's whereabouts and communicating daily about behavioral expectations.
  • Follow all camp systems, including registration and collection procedures, and support colleagues in doing the same.
  • Serve as a positive role model by promoting healthy lifestyles and good hygiene practices.
  • Report any Child Protection concerns to the Senior Team or a designated person at Central Office.
  • Make reasonable adjustments to accommodate children with additional needs or medical conditions.
  • Depending on staff availability, deliver Skills Builder sessions and support swimming sessions as required.
